Kitimat-Kitamaat Tsunami Model and Risk Assessment

The District of Kitimat, in partnership with the Haisla Nation, retained Ocean Networks Canada as prime consultant, with PSG Ocean acting as sub-consultant, to undertake regional and community-level tsunami risk assessments.

As engineer of record, PSG Ocean is responsible for:

• Providing oversight of digital elevation model (DEM) development
• Reviewing numerical modelling results for seismic and landslide-generated tsunami simulations
• Defining hazard mapping requirements and reviewing associated mapping outputs
• Conducting a qualitative risk assessment focused on identifying exposed elements and assets
• Providing recommendations for risk mitigation measures and improvements to emergency management plans, including marine safety considerations developed in collaboration with a master mariner, Captain John Swann (L. J. Swann and Associates)
